United Way of Wilson County and the Upper Cumberland partners with more than 40 local non-profit programs that work to improve local lives. In some cases, the work makes life easier, more comfortable and in other cases, the work may be life-saving.

One such partner program is Charis Health Center, and we couldn’t be happier this amazing program has a new means to reach even more people.

Through a generous and anonymous donation, Charis Health Center now owns a 36-foot clinic on wheels. Designed and equipped to provide confidential screenings to patients, this mobile clinic contains a private examination couch with lamp, a refrigerator for medicines, a computerized patient filing system, health education materials and a silent electric generator.

“For the underserviced community members without insurance, this mobile clinic will greatly contribute to improving the health status,” said Lea Rowe, executive director of Charis Health Center. “As the need to expand to serve the growing number of our neighbors in the health care coverage gap, Charis has been blessed by a generous donor to equip us with a complete, mobile health clinic. This mobile clinic opens Charis up to new and exciting opportunities to better serve the community.”

Charis Health Center is a nonprofit faith-based primary care clinic with no political affiliation. Its mission is to provide effective and affordable primary health care to the medically uninsured in Middle Tennessee.

Our local United Way is proud to help support Charis Health Center, which provides routine examinations, assessments and basic laboratory testing. There is a $25 copay for an office visit. A well-woman exam, including a free mammogram referral, is $40. Appointments are required. For more information about Charis Health Center, call 615-773-5785.
